A jack plane  is a general-purpose woodworking bench plane, used for dressing timber down to the correct size in preparation for truing and/or edge jointing. It is usually the first plane used on rough stock, but in exceptional cases can be preceded by the scrub plane.

A carpenter's plane, usually with a wooden body, used for rough planing of timber

 

IRON JACK PLANE
(a) Made from fine grey iron casting with bottom machined and ground smooth.
(b) Blade of high carbon alloy steel duly hardened with / without Corrugated base.
(c) Handle and knob of selected superior wood chemically treated
